Ferry to Utila

Utila by ferry

Honduras Ferry runs the only regular service between La Ceiba, Roatán and Utila. If you are travelling with a dog, read the pet policy properly before you book.

Do not buy VIP cabin tickets if you are travelling with a dog.

Dogs are not permitted in the VIP cabin under any circumstances. Buy standard deck tickets only — the upgrade is money you cannot use.

Two crossings a day from La Ceiba. One from Roatán.

That is the whole service. Miss the last departure and your options are a night where you are, a chartered boat or plane, or a spare seat on somebody else's charter. Plan the rest of the day around the boat rather than hoping to catch it.

The dog policy

Dogs are not allowed inside the cabin. You have two options:

Outside upper deck

Your dog rides on the open-air upper deck, on a leash, beside you. Shade is limited — bring water and something to sit on.

Cargo hold

If you would rather sit inside, your dog travels in a kennel in the cargo area below deck, away from you for the crossing.

Policies are enforced by individual crew members and interpretations vary. Confirm directly with Honduras Ferry before boarding rather than relying on what happened last time.

Free printable checklist

Download the checklist, and hear about it when the rules change

A one-page PDF with all 13 items, what each one costs, and the phone numbers you will actually need. Print it, tick it off, take it to the airport. Yours straight away — no waiting on an inbox.

We'll also email you when the requirements change. They do change — the CDC rabies certification appeared with no announcement most owners ever saw, and we found out about it the hard way. If something moves before your trip, you hear it from us.

Your email unlocks the download. We'll also use it to tell you when the entry requirements change, plus the occasional Bay Islands pet-travel note. Unsubscribe any time. See our privacy policy.
